My advice:

1. KISS:  Keep It Simple, Stupid!
   Get a sticky note, write this basic principle down, and keep it in plain sight where you can see it, like on your monitor.  Great advise for people who tend to overscope their projects, or generally try to do more than they are able to do in a week (or, however long your projects are, outside of jams).
2. If you want to find the flaws in your games, find your enemies and tell them it is flawless.
   They will tear your game apart and search for flaws with more vigor, zeal, and passion than any of your closest loved ones will do for you.
